• Explore Portland’s Shanghai Tunnels, a series of underground passageways that were originally built to move goods from the ships docked on the Willamette. Mostof the tunnels led to the basement storage areas in taverns, restaurants, and hotels as a means of avoiding street traffic.

• Visit the Japanese American Historical Plaza. See the beautifully carved stones that tell of the hardships suffered by Japanese immigrants and the incarceration of persons of Japanese ancestry during World War II. It also honors those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces while their families were in the camps.

• Travel to the Oregon Musuem of Science and Industry (OMSI) nearby. Founded in 1944, this outstanding cultural institution features a series of interactive exhibits that focus on the natural sciences, technology, and industry.
