Hacienda el Carmen Hotel & Spa

Hacienda el Carmen Hotel & Spa originates to the 16th century when the Spanish Crown bequeathed the land to Francisco Merodio de Velasco. It was passed down for generations, until it eventually wound up in the hands of Francisca Figueroa. She subsequently decided to give the area to a few Carmelite monks, who built the nucleus of the current building in 1722. But the prior did not want to turn the location into a monastery, and instead financed the construction of the famous Convento del Carmen. With the emergence of Benito Juárez and the Reforma in 1856, the Carmelites were expelled from the Convento del Carmen. After falling into a period of neglect that lasted for several decades, the Baeza family acquired the structure in 1964. The entire complex then became a luxury boutique hotel under their watch some 40 years later. Located in Ahualulco de Mercado, Hacienda el Carmen Hotel & Spa is surrounded by majestic blue agave farms. The hacienda consists of 160 hectares of farmland, where it raises sugarcane, corn, and bell peppers for export. Hacienda el Carmen Hotel & Spa also resides just 44 miles from Guadalajara, which is Mexico’s second-largest city. It is even surrounded by many fascinating cultural attractions, such as the Ancient Industrial Facilities of Tequila (a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the Archaeological Site of Guachimontones.
